‘The Brothers Sun’: Netflix Cancels Hit Series After One Season!

After just one season, Netflix has ended Michelle Yeoh’s criminal drama “The Brothers Sun.”

The action film, which is based in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California and revolves around Taiwanese organized crime, debuted on Netflix’s international platform on January 4. Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu were the creators and executive producers of the series.

“Brothers Sun” starred Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Highdee Kuan, and Joon Lee in addition to Oscar winner Yeoh. Deadline broke the cancellation’s news first.

The show ran for eight episodes. After his father is killed in Taipei, Chein plays a Taiwanese mobster who flees to the Los Angeles region to protect his estranged mother. Yeoh, who took home the Oscar for Best Actress in 2016 for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,”

Yeoh was described as “cutthroat and commanding” by Variety TV writer Aramide Tinubu, who also praised the show as “a thrilling, brilliant dramedy about familial obligations, buried skeletons, and the bonds that can never be broken.” Additionally, Tinubu noted, “The series introduces Chien and Li as two mega talents who will undoubtedly continue to grace our screens, though it gives Yeoh a showcase that she’s more than earned.”

Mikkal Bondesen and Kevin Tancharoen, who helmed the first episode of the series, are additional executive producers. Madison Hu, Jon Xue Zhang, Alice Hewkin, and Jenny Yang were among the other cast members.

The brief existence of “The Brothers Sun” serves as another illustration of how even highly publicized television shows are being scrutinized carefully during a period when big networks, studios, and streamers are reevaluating their overall content budgets.
